Mayor of Sejong gives lecture on smart and green cities at Split Technology Park

On 29 July 2025, Split Technology Park hosted a lecture by the Mayor of the South Korean city of Sejong, Mr Mingho Choi. In front of a large audience, Mayor Choi shared experiences from the development of one of the most advanced smart cities in the world – Sejong, which was purpose-built in 2012 in response to overcrowding in the capital, Seoul. Today, Sejong is a global example of how smart solutions can be used to improve people’s quality of life.

In his presentation, Mayor Choi outlined the development of Sejong – from the idea of an administrative capital to its present-day role as the centre of national government and one of the most advanced smart cities. He particularly highlighted projects based on artificial intelligence, UAM technology, cybersecurity and quantum technologies, as well as initiatives such as HackTheon Sejong and the “Sejong Triangle” concept, which links industry, innovation and urban development. An equally important part of the lecture focused on Sejong as a sustainable, green city with more than 220 parks, 200 kilometres of walking paths, the world’s longest green roof, a national arboretum and a central lake park. The city has been shaped according to the principle of “A garden in the city – a city in the garden”, in which nature, technology and quality of life work in harmony.

We are especially pleased that in April this year a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Sejong Technopark and Split Development Agency – RaST. The aim of this cooperation is to exchange knowledge and develop new Split Technology Park programmes, with an emphasis on strengthening support for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises.
